Suspension set up and power run

We planned to do a track day at Mallory Park on the BirotarUK sports bikes, but considering their age, we wanted to make sure that the bikes were prepared and correctly set up to ensure maximum safety and enjoyment.

The SRAD was spoilt and received a full fluid flush, including engine oil, brake fluid and coolant. Due to the Gixxer’s terrible brakes it also received a full front brake overhaul including new standard discs, rebuilt front calipers with fresh seals, braided lines, upgraded the MC and HH Sintered pads. The difference is immediately noticeable and these upgrades have transformed the SRAD’s braking performance.

The ZXR received an oil and filter change and some fine tuning and adjustments to the drive train. We felt the stock brakes and EBC pads would be up to the job on the track day.

We searched for a motorcycle tuning company, and we came across Race Engineering by recommendation. We booked in the ZXR and SRAD’s suspension to be set up to the rider’s weight.

We received great customer service form the team at Race Engineering. The technician was very knowledgeable and with ex-racing experience, we were confident in his ability. He was able to adjust the rebound, travel, dampening and sag on both bikes, and also advise us on the condition and health of the suspension itself.

As you may have seen on Instagram, the bikes also had a power run each on Race Engineering’s Dyno. We were interested in seeing what kind of power the bikes were putting out. The old girls are not getting any younger, carburetors are now classed as ‘Stone Age’ technology and we have to admit, they have been ridden well over the years so it was great news for us to see the results.

ZXR original spec: 400cc 4cyl carb
ZXR original power: 62 BHP
ZXR weight: 159KG
ZXR torque: 26ft-lb
ZXR power run results: 58.6 BHP
ZXR power to weight: 368.55 BHP

SRAD original spec: 600cc 4cyl carb
SRAD original power: 92 BHP
SRAD weight: 174kg
SRAD torque: 44ft-lb
SRAD power run results: 91.74 BHP
SRAD power to weight: 527.59 BHP

We would like to thank Race Engineering for taking care of us for the great customer service, expertise, advice, and a great cup of tea! We highly recommend them for any of your motorcycle tuning needs.
